Special Collaboration Dinner at La Locanda
Join us for a special collaboration dinner at the Italian restaurant "La Locanda," featuring Gianluca Puzzolo from Azienda Agricola Le Macchiole—one of the wineries that catapulted the now-renowned Bolgheri region of Tuscany into the spotlight. We are also honored to have Mr. Yoshiyuki Kawazu, a well-known taster for Real Wine Guide and a renowned "Fighting Wine Merchant," as our interpreter for the evening. The dinner will feature a selection of rare back vintages that have become highly sought after and difficult to find.

◇About Azienda Agricola Le Macchiole
Located in Bolgheri, Tuscany, Azienda Agricola Le Macchiole is one of the star wineries of the region. The late Eugenio Campolmi, the first owner, discovered the potential of this land and dedicated himself tirelessly to it. In a region predominantly owned by nobility, he was the only local farmer to establish a new cantina that gained worldwide fame. His unwavering effort and passion have produced world-class wines. The premium wine "Messorio," made from 100% Merlot, captivated wine enthusiasts globally after receiving a perfect 100-point score from Wine Advocate magazine in 2004. By 2009, the winery was hailed as the best in Italy. When it comes to Tuscany's finest Merlot, Messorio stands alongside Masseto and Redigaffi, renowned for its elegance that rivals even the Right Bank of Bordeaux, making it a truly exceptional presence.

Career

◇Profile of Gianluca Puzzolo

Born in Sardinia in 1972, Gianluca moved to Pisa, Tuscany, in 1991.
After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Pisa, he pursued further studies at the University of Florence, earning a degree in company management and marketing related to the wine industry.
He became a professional sommelier in 1998 and obtained the WSET Level 3 in 2022. His career began in 2002 as a sommelier in Tuscany and Spain, committing his life’s work to the wine industry.
After a brief stint at Ernesto Gallo's Italian branch, he served as a director at Jerez, a major distribution company handling top cuvées of Italian and French wines until 2006.
From 2007 to 2010, he worked as a strategic consultant for prominent Italian wineries, including Montevertine, Foradori, Siro Pacenti, Sandrone, and Vietti. In 2011, after gaining sales experience in the U.S., he became the head of strategy at Le Macchiole.
His hobbies include photography, where he is a semi-professional with personal exhibitions.

◇Mr. Yoshiyuki Kawazu's Biography

Graduated from Meiji Gakuin University, where he played as a forward in the rugby team. After graduation, he worked for a trading company.
In 1992, while studying abroad in the UK, he met his future wife, Giovanna, and developed a passion for Italian wine.
In 1996, he resigned from his company and, together with his wife, started a business specializing in the export of Italian wine. His motto is to promote "reasonably priced, truly valuable wines" and to fight against detrimental industry practices.
His father was the late film director Yoshiro Kawazu, and the late actor Yusuke Kawazu was his uncle.
He serves as a taster for "The Real Wine Guide" and has authored books including "The Ultimate Guide to Italian Wine" (published in 2005) and "The Top 24 Italian Wineries" (published in 2019).
